Local Ministries and Domestic Missions

"Mission work gets us out of the church doors where we are guided by God to look outside of our selves and to focus on the needs of others and the plans that God has for us.  Mission transforms people."

The mission field begins just outside our front doors. Sand Springs is an industrial town with both material and spiritual needs in abundance. Our front line of mission is to our own community. Most of what we do in worship, fellowship, evangelism, education, and compassionate outreach is focused on this small city where God has called us to serve. We use the word "mission" to refer both to the entire call and work of our church and, as used for this page, to focus on the compassionate outreach of the church to people in deep need. Our three primary means of accomplishing this mission are through our Deacons, through our support of Sand Springs Community Services, and through hands-on service projects in our community and beyond.

Deacons:

  • Visitation to members who are hospitalized or shut-in

  • Food, blankets, and non-perishables collected for Sand Springs Community Services

  • School supplies collected for the schools

  • Meals prepared for funerals and shut-ins

  • Vouchers for utilities, gasoline and food for people in need

  • Donations of money solicited quarterly to support the needy

  • A small food pantry is kept stocked to help people in need

Sand Springs Community Services (SSCS):

  • We volunteer time to help at the agency

  • We host the monthly board meetings for the agency

  • Our pastor and one of our members are involved in leadership on the board

  • We give to the agency from our operating budget

  • We take up special offerings for the agency including:

The Souper Bowl of Caring offering (see www.souperbowl.org for more info)

“April Showers” offerings in April for donations of hygiene products and non-perishable food.

October Blanket and Coat drive for the clothes closet at SSCS

  • We work closely with the agency, referring people in need to SSCS and helping people in need when their needs are beyond the scope of SSCS’s guidelines

Local Service Projects:

  • We have an on-going list of regular service projects that we do
  • We volunteer our time to help at Sand Springs Community Services
  • We help others by doing yard clean-up, tree removal, and small roofing jobs for people in need.
  • If you are interested in assisting with time or money, please contact the church office.
